STATUS: We are now accepting donations. If you are donating more than Two (2) Medium Sized boxes, please contact the library in advanced so we can have a cart ready.

The library accepts donations of recent (nothing older than 10 years):

  1. Books
  2. DVDs
  3. CDs

Donations should be clean, don't smell, and in good condition. 

We DO NOT accept donations of:

  1. Old newspapers
  2. Magazines
  3. Encyclopedias
  4. Audiocassettes
  5. VHS tapes
  6. Records

At this time, we ONLY accept one (1) medium box of donations as the storage space for donations is limited.  Three months before the library’s booksale in September, we can accept multiple boxes.

All donations immediately become the property of the library and they can’t be returned.  Some donations will be added to the collection.  The same criteria for inclusion in the library’s collection apply to gifts as to purchased materials.  The rest will be sold or discarded if the books are out-of-date, moldy or smell. 

The library accepts donations from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  Please DO NOT put donations in the Book or Media Drive-Up Drops.  

If you need a receipt for tax purposes, the library will provide one.  However, the library can't assign a dollar value to your donation.

Except for the library or library related groups, the meeting room may NOT be reserved for social gatherings
such as receptions, showers, birthday parties, dances, non-library book clubs, etc., nor for fundraising or
money-making purposes such as bake sales or presentations of products or services. Non-Library sponsored groups
may not charge admission nor solicit or require donations for attendance at the meetings, nor can they collect dues on
premises. NO product or services may be solicited or sold.

Study Room Policy

STUDY ROOM POLICY (updated 05-4-17)

The Richton Park Public Library District has 5 study rooms intended for private study for the public by small groups or individuals. There are (2) rooms in Youth Services & Teen and (3) rooms in Adult Services.

Room Reservation:
1. Study Room Sign-in: Individuals/groups must sign-up with staff at the Youth or Adult Services desk to reserve a Study Room in person.

2. Study Rooms are First Come, First Served:

a. Study Rooms may be reserved by a particular group or individual only one time per day. Rooms will be monitored for noise and overuse.

b. Each room will be reserved for one hour.  If no one is waiting, an additional hour is given with a maximum of two hours. Time may be extended at the discretion of staff, if there is no one else waiting. Additional time will be in one-hour increments.

3. ID Requirements for Study Room Use: Photo ID, School ID, or Library Card will be acceptable forms of identification. ID will be held until the small group or individual’s use of the room is completed.

Adult Services Study Rooms:

1. Study Room 1 is a 5-person room. Study Rooms 2 & 3 are 4-person rooms. Staff will enforce these limits.

2. The Adult Service Study Rooms are for use by Adults ONLY.

3. Special requests to use the Youth Study Rooms will be considered.

Youth Services & Teen Study Rooms:

1. Study Rooms 4 & 5 are 4-person rooms. Staff will enforce these limits.

2. These study rooms are for use for High School, Middle School, and Younger Aged Children.

3. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a designated caregiver.

Room Usage:

1. The Patron Code of Conduct applies to all Study Room users (including, but not limited to):

a. No moving furniture into and out of the room or no misuse of furniture in any way (ie: sitting or lying on
the tables; feet propped up on the chairs & table; lying on the floor…)

b. No outside food and only covered beverages are allowed in the Study Rooms.  If seen with food, you’ll be asked to leave the Study Room for the day.

c. No sleeping in the Study Rooms.

d. Lights MUST stay on at all times.

e. No sitting or lying on the floor.

f. No exchanging money for services and other business transactions.

g. No solicitation or selling of products and goods.

h. No viewing or displays of inappropriate obscenities.

i. Cell phone conversations must be kept to a minimum with your voice lowered.

j. Constant behavior warnings will result in loss of privileges.


2. After Study Room Usage:

a. Personal belongings left behind are not the responsibility of the library.

b. Debris & garbage left behind may cause loss of privileges.

c. Damage to the room or furniture will result in repair/ replacement charges and loss of privileges.

3. Please Sign-Out: A staff member will check the room to insure a good condition before releasing the ID.

Get a Library Card

To obtain a Richton Park Public Library District library card, residents must provide proof of residency.  The library staff will accept a valid State of Illinois driver's license or other official governmental photo I.D. as proof of residency.  However, if the above is not valid the patron must provide a photo I.D. plus one of the following:

1.  A current utility bill (gas, electric, cable, phone, cell phone, water bill from the Village of Richton Park)

2.  Voter's registration card

3.  Mortage statement (no leases)

For residents of unincorporated Richton Park there is a charge of $250.00 per family for a Richton Park Public Library District library card.

If the patron has had a library card with another institution then all fines and fees must be cleared from any adult or dependent child's card before the Richton Park Public Library District will issue a new card.

Request an Item 

Search for the item in the SWAN catalog.

Click on the "request" link for the selection menu or the red "Request" button in the actual record.

Enter your name, the barcode from your library card and your password.

 Please make sure that your email address in your profile.  An email notice will be generated as soon as the item is either placed on hold for you in the library or arrives at the Richton Park Public Library District from another library. 

Note: past due fines are assessed by the policies of the generating library.

 It is that easy.  Please do not forget that you can also suggest items to be included in our collection.  See the front desk for more details.

Donate Books

We do not accept books more than 10 years old especially encyclopedia sets.  We also reserve the right to refuse donations if there isn't any room in storage.  There is no guarantee materials will be added to the collection.  The designated librarian will determine if items will be added to the collection.  Materials in poor condition will be recycled and any other materials in good condition that the library does't add to the collection will be sold in the Friends of the Library Booksale.

Please, no donations in the book or media drops.  Donations will only be accept during operational hours and no staff assistance will be available unloading vehicles and/or bringing them inside the library.

If you would like a donation letter for tax purposes, you must bring those items directly into the library, you will be helped at the circulation desk.
